As head of the Sound Department at Walt Disney Imagineering, Melissa worked with Disney Character Voices, WDI Voice Casting and clients including Warner Bros. Animation on voiceover recording, voice casting and talent coordination, as well as providing talent support, contract and legal support, agent relations and recording facility management for Animation, Television, Consumer Products, Gaming and Theme Parks.
She also worked with Universal Studios Animation and at Mike Young Productions supporting several animated series.
After recruiting one of her heroes, 35-time Emmy Award nominee/8-time Emmy Award winner, Andrea Romano, to be a facility client, Melissa was thrilled when Romano tapped her as Casting Associate for the Emmy-nominated "Justice League: The New Frontier."
Melissa enjoyed working with David Boreanaz on "Kingdom Hearts" so much that suggested him for Green Lantern, on "Justice League: The New Frontier."
Boreanaz slyly promoted "Justice League: The New Frontier" by having his character, Seeley Booth, read a Green Lantern comic book on his long-running TV series "Bones."
Melissa often quotes television pioneer, Milton Berle. “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”
She says, "Sometimes, a good idea will come to fruition later. I suggested David Gallagher and David Selby during lunchtime conversations for other projects. The idea stuck and they were cast for later projects.
Another lunchtime discussion about the reboot of "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" at Disneyland using the proprietary format of binaural sound, Melissa suggested casting Lane Davies as Civil War photographer, Matthew Brady.
Melissa pitched the idea by saying, "If the fabulous voice of Lane Davies in both ears (binaural sound) doesn't put people in the theater, nothing will."
Melissa J. L. Smith is proud to have been associated with the outstanding programs and projects below.
